2011 Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon Annum

TASTING NOTE

We shocked our friends when opening a bottle of 2011 California Cabernet Sauvignon after the 1962 La Tour Haut Brion.  Our reasoning, which proved correct, was the desire, if not need, for some tannins and vibrant fruit. Et voila, Ramey delivered.

Opaque purple on the eye.  One might even think a Malbec.  Aromas of liquorice, vibrant berries, espresso and milk chocolate.

Broad shoulders with sweet, well-developed, nicely gripping tannins and wonderful vibrant red fruits.  Tres yummy.

No doubt will benefit from several more years in the cellar.

2008 Marcassin Chardonnay Marcassin Vineyard

TASTING NOTE

Our friend visited with his family for a sip ‘n snack birthday month event.  Followed very nicely after 1999 Champagne Alfred Gratien Brut.

Golden, yellowish-grown.  The first sister was elegant on the eye.

Aromas of vibrant blend of citrus, burnt caramel and toasted almonds.  Very, very inviting on the nose…someone needs to make a perfume with that smell! The ultimate second sister!!!

Palate was buttery, vanilla cream with a hint too much acidity.  A bit too perky third sister, but we waited a little to ensure she acted appropriately.  Yes, we think this wine needs another year or two of cellaring before hitting on all cylinders. 97+ in the future!!!

2013 Fisher Vineyards Chardonnay The Unity

TASTING NOTE

Our last bottle sipped for first day of “birthday month” celebrations. Just a nice,  unpretentious drop.  A definite “buy” every year.

2014 Beringer Vineyards Chardonnay Private Reserve

TASTING NOTE

Very well-made, great balance of oak, acidity and touch of creamy vanilla.

Exceptional QPR.

Far from our favourite California Chardonnays, but a winner by any standard.

2011 Testarossa Pinot Noir Dos Rubios Vineyard

TASTING NOTE

We wanted something with some velvet glove, iron fist sorta characteristics to sip after our Indian curry with Syrah.  We decided another Testarossa was the way to go…probably more a reflection of our friend’s preference for soft yet juicy.

Dark red color. Vibrant perfume of flowers, cherries and lemon-lime-orange.  Excellent aromatic blend.

Palate of powerful fruit with silly tannins and a hint of toasty oak. Excellent. OK QPR.

2011 Testarossa Syrah Garys’ Vineyard

TASTING NOTE

We chose this luvly to step-up for our Indian curry dinner. She hit the ball right out of the park!

Dark purple-red colour. Aromas of black pepper, blueberries and some gamey notes.

Blueberries, spices, velvety tannins and a certain delicate power that explodes happiness on the palate as it confronts and blends with the vindaloo.

Very nice wine. QPR reasonable.

2010 Sea Smoke Pinot Noir Ten

TASTING NOTE

Powerful and intense.  Perfume of dark cherries and strawberries on the nose.

Huge structure, medium tannins, long and silkily finish. Sipped nicely after 4+ hours breathing in the bottle.

Blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and cherries! Hints of black pepper. Silky and elegant finish. Will lay down for many a year.

Pleased as punch to have quite a few bottles in the cellar. Very simply a stunning wine! She hits the floor like the gal in Flashdance, pirouettes gracefully mid-palate and finishes elegantly to the London Symphony Orchestra…a phenomenal performance!

We did get some nice chocolate and coffee notes in this bottle…yummy!
